About the event
“The Victorious one has proclaimed six objects
for continual mindfulness:
The Buddhas, the Dharma, the Sangha,
Generous giving, ethical discipline, and worldly gods.
Be continually mindful of the mass of good qualities of these.”
-Nagarjuna’s Letter to a Friend
There’s this thing that keeps coming up.
“Hey, I want to be tantric. Can I pray to Hecate as a tantric, or use Lord Ram instead of the Buddha?”
And we see that usually this is answered, in our forums and chats, in one of two ways:
· “No, we’re Buddhist here! None of your Hindu/Greek/Christian gods here!”
· “Yes, of course, here’s the mantra of X”
Both answers are wrong.
As a Buddhist, you should be mindful of local worldly gods. As a tantric sorcerer, you should petition and work with them, to help them reach Dharma. But that’s not the same as taking refuge in them or just using other methods and trying to mash them into a sadhana.
So, two questions remain:
· Why you should work with worldly gods and spirits and
· How should you do it
We’ve put together an unscheduled Workshop with Lama Sherab, just on the number of questions that we had about this. It will include the answer to those two questions and a transmission of a method to contact the lands’ spirit and what should you do afterwards to build a relationship with them.
You should take this workshop if:
· You have other practices that you want to work in a tantric setting
· You come from a tradition that has a different view than Vajrayana
· You’re curious how to relate to local gods and spirits
Hope that it helps and we’ll see you there!
